Project Completion Details
We completed our first well and latrine at the Shungu Health Clinic. This clinic is located in the township of Kamina of the Katanga Region of the DRC. The Shungu Health Center servies multiple communities within a 70 km radius. They were in dire need of clean water and a latrine facility.
November of 2010 saw the construction of 2 new wells and 3 new latrines! The two wells were constructed in the areas of Kamalondo and Quartier 64, which would enabled access to safe water for approximately 5,000 people. Additionally, the construction of 3 latrines (2 for boys and 1 for girls) in a school building that houses 2 distinct primary schools and would serve nearly 2,000 students. Construction and corresponding community awareness education activities totaled $14,200.
Due to a partnership with UMCOR we were able to leverage our gift of $7,100 into two wells (double impact). The projects were:
1 well in Camp pensionné & Tabora. Beneficiaries: A population of approximately 5,000
1 Well in Base II, which is also the area where the UMC Guest House is located. Beneficiaries: This well serves approximately 8,000 people
